Stem Cells / Tissue Engineering

Stem Cells / Tissue Engineering Photo

Tissue engineering carry off principles from the domain of cell biology, materials science, transplantation and engineering in an effort to replace or repair damaged tissues. This session is intended to provide a current overview of the use of tissue engineering and stem cells innovations especially in the treatment of genitourinary diseases. Topical issue in the area include the use of adult stem cells seeded which is conducive to host tissue in-growth onto biocompatible restorable matrices for implantation as tissue substitutes. Injection therapy of adult stem cells for organ rehabilitation is also making strong progress toward the restoration of organ function and structure.

Stem cells used for tissue engineering can be divided into two categories: pluripotent stem cells and multipotent stem cells based on their differentiation potential. During embryological development, ESCs are differentiated from the inner cell mass of the blastocyst, their use in tissue engineering is more limited and controversial while more attention has been paid to adult stem cells, which are multipotent and have a larger ability to differentiate into a limited number of cell types. Adult stem cells can be established in many adult tissue types including peripheral blood, nervous tissues, bone marrow, adipose tissues, dermis, muscles, etc.
